BLUES NAME TEAM FOR MOBBS MATCH

Bedford Blues have named their 25 man squad which will face the British Army in the Mobbs Memorial game which is being played at Goldington Road on Wednesday 1st April with kick off at 7.45pm

First played in 1921, the Mobbs Memorial game honours Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Mobbs DSO, a true England rugby legend and a genuine hero of World War I. Formerly competed between the East Midlands and the Barbarians, the game now pits the British Army against Bedford Blues and Northampton Saints on alternate years and this year the match falls on Blues’ turf.

MIDWEEK MOBBS MEMORIAL MATCH

The annual Mobbs Memorial Match returns to Goldington Road this Wednesday 1st April as Bedford Blues prepare to go to battle against The Army (Kick Off 7:45pm).

MATCH REPORT V BRISTOL

Bedford Blues gave one of their best performances all season at Ashton Gate, but it wasn’t to be as they went down 38-14 to the league leaders Bristol, writes Ryan Lewis.

The Blues travelled west off the back of four straight defeats in the Greene King IPA Championship, but played with confidence and ambition, threatening a side full of international experience. 

The result could have been better for the visitors but for a referee who harshly sent four Bedford players to the bin, three of which coming just before the half-time whistle.

ACADEMY LOSE TO TIGERS

Bedford Blues Academy welcomed a Leicester Tigers Academy side, who had beaten Wales U18s and England Counties U18s in their last two games, to Goldington Road on Sunday. 

The Blues took an early lead after 10 minutes but went into half time 14pts - 5 behind after a closely contested first half.  Tigers’ superior pace and power saw them stretch away in the last 20 minutes to end as deserved winners by 47–5.

With a spate of injuries to cope with the Blues make five changes to the starting lineup and give debuts to four new players on the bench.

MATCH PREVIEW V BRISTOL

Bedford Blues travel to Ashton Gate on Sunday afternoon with Director of Rugby Mike Rayer challenging his players to put in a strong performance against table-topping Bristol.

The two teams met on Boxing Day at Goldington Road when the Blues went into the break leading 17-7 thanks to tries from James Pritchard, Harry Wells and Dean Adamson only for the visitors to regroup during the interval to finally run out 24-28 winners - Pat Tapley added the Blues fourth try which secured two bonus points.

BOOJ PLANNING TO RECTIFY ERRORS AT BRISTOL

Bedford Blues will be looking to bounce back this weekend in a sizeable task against top of the table Bristol Rugby at Ashton Gate on Sunday (Kick Off 3pm).

Looking ahead to the reverse fixture of Boxing Day at Goldington Road, Blues centre Michael Le Bourgeois believes composure and taking the game to the league leaders will be key in gaining a result from Bristol.

Le Bourgeois said: “Every game counts, it’s not one that we can let slip so we will take the game to them - they’re top of the league for a reason so both teams will be trying to play, but we have to keep our composure.”

DRAW MADE FOR BLUES UNDER 19 TOURNAMENT

The draw for the Bedford Blues Under 19s 10-a-Side Tournament was completed on Friday night ahead of the Blues game against Cornish Pirates.
 
The draw, which was made by Ian Connell, Chairman of Cornish Pirates, and Ian Baggott, President of the East Midlands Referees Society, has determined which teams go into each Pool for the inaugural tournament which takes place on Sunday 26th April at Goldington Road.

MATCH REPORT V CORNISH PIRATES

Bedford Blues suffered a Cornish Pirates plundering as the West Countrymen took a 21-31 bonus point win from their visit to Goldington Road on Friday evening.

Despite scoring three very well worked tries of their own, the Blues were always playing catch-up after the visitors scored twice in the opening eight minutes before crossing the whitewash just before the break and two minutes from full-time as the set-piece failed to function against a powerful Pirates pack.

MATCH PREVIEW V CORNISH PIRATES

As the Greene King IPA Championship season enters its final few rounds, Bedford Blues return to action with a Friday night fixture against the Cornish Pirates.
 
This will be the third clash between the two sides this season with each result so far going the way of the home team and Bedford will be hoping for much of the same on Friday night but know that they will have to be at their best to overcome a strong Pirates squad.
