BLUES HOME FIXTURES CONFIRMED

Bedford Blues have confirmed that all but two of their home fixtures for the 2015/16 Greene King IPA Championship will take place on Saturdays with a 3pm kick-off.
 
The only league games which fall outside of the time slot will be against Rotherham Titans, which will kick off at 7.45pm on Friday 16th October, and a holiday fixture versus London Scottish on New Year’s Day at 3pm.

PASSING OF OLDEST FORMER PLAYER GEORGE JENKINS

Bedford Blues Rugby Club was this week sadly informed that former player and captain George Jenkins has passed away. George, who was 99 years and 6 months at the time of his death, was actually the Club's oldest former player and oldest captain.

Between 1946-53 George made 128 appearances in the back row, scoring 37 tries and was captain of the 1950-51 squad.

Hailing from Abercarn in Wales, flanker George never forgot his time at Bedford and the Club would like to extend our sincere sympathy to his family and friends. Once a Blue, always a Blue.

BLUES SNAP UP QUINS SCRUM HALF

Bedford Blues have added 21 year old Harlequins scrum half Jordan Burns to their squad for the 2015/16 Greene King IPA Championship season.

Burns, who started life playing on the wing before switching to nine, has signed a permanent deal with the Goldington Road club and has joined up with his new teammates for pre-season training.

CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES ANNOUNCED

Bedford Blues will begin the 2015/16 Greene King IPA Championship season with a trip to Bristol before welcoming Moseley to Goldington Road for the first home game of the campaign.

The full schedule of Championship fixtures was confirmed today with the Blues first home game of the season seeing Kevin Maggs bringing his Moseley team to Goldington Road on the weekend of 11th/12th/13th September before Bedford see out September with two trips on the road to London Scottish and London Welsh

BLUES TO FACE SCARLETS

Bedford Blues can now confirm that their third and final pre-season friendly ahead of the Greene King IPA Championship season will be against Pro 12 side Scarlets at Llandovery RFC.

Having already announced encounters against Ampthill, Old Albanians and Plymouth Albion, Mike Rayer’s men will head on their travels once again to Llandovery Rugby Club to face Welsh giants the Scarlets on Saturday 29th August at 2.30pm.  The Welsh region finished sixth in this season's Pro 12 to qualify for the European Challenge Cup, and will prove a stern test for the Blues ahead of the Championship season opener.

BLUES ANNOUNCE PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES

Bedford Blues have returned to pre-season training this week and the players are gearing up for a pair of intriguing friendly encounters ahead of the Greene King IPA Championship season which kicks off on the first weekend of September.

Ahead of the league opener, the Blues will take part in three matches against four teams. The first game will be a first triangular friendly at Goldington Road on Saturday 15th August against National One opposition Ampthill and National Two South Old Albanians with all three teams playing each other for  40 minutes.

CAR BOOT SALE BACK AT BLUES FROM THIS SUNDAY

The popular Bedford Blues car boot sale is back from this Sunday. Get down to Goldington Road every Sunday from 9am to either sell those valuable unneeded items or to grab yourself a bargain from any one of the pitches.

The cost for a pitch is just £7 in the back car park with punters coming in for just £1 between 9am – 1pm. Entrance is through the front gate where our man Ian will look after you.

The money raised from the car boot sales is invaluable to the Club so pop down and support the Blues while grabbing yourself a bargain. New sellers and buyers welcome, pop down from this Sunday 14th June.

SKIPPY HOPS ON BOARD FOR ANOTHER BLUES CAMPAIGN

Bedford Blues and Canada’s all-time leading point scorer James Pritchard has signed a new deal to remain at Goldington Road for the coming Greene King IPA Championship campaign.

Pritchard, 35, who has just enjoyed his testimonial season with the Blues, will return to Goldington Road following his involvement in the 2015 Rugby World Cup with Canada.

JOIN THE FOLLOWERS BIG TIDY UP THIS SATURDAY

The Bedford Rugby Followers Association will be carrying out a number of tasks every Saturday over the summer months to help tidy up Goldington Road and improve the ground in the lead up to another exciting Championship season, and they need your help!

The Club are investing significant sums on a facilities project at the home of Bedford Blues in the off season, but need the followers to complement the work with an array of smaller jobs including painting, weeding and general tidying.

WEBB ELLIS CUP TO VISIT BLUES ON TROPHY TOUR

On August 18 rugby’s greatest prize, the Webb Ellis Cup, will visit Goldington Road, the home of Bedford Blues, as part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour.

Launching on June 10, 100 days to go to the opening match, the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour will travel through Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales and England before arriving at Twickenham Stadium on September 18 ahead of the Opening Ceremony.

As part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour, Bedford Blues will welcome the Webb Ellis Cup between 20:00 – 22:00 in the Blues Marquee for all supporters to view and take a selfie on stage from 20:30.
