MATCH REPORT V SCARLETS

The Blues capped off their pre-season campaign with an impressive 13-27 win over Welsh Giants the Scarlets at Llandovery's Church Bank on Saturday afternoon.

Despite trailing 13-5 at the interval, Mike Rayer’s men put in a big performance to oversee the Pro12 region with tries coming courtesy of Joel Conlon, Mark Flanagan, Dean Adamson and Paul Tupai.

Just as important though was the physicality displayed by the Blues along with a staunch defence that limited the chances available to the hosts - something that Bedford will be eager to carry on once the Greene King IPA Championship season kicks off next weekend.

SEASON TICKET HOLDER 'MEET THE PLAYERS' EVENING

The Club are pleased to announce further details on the special ‘Meet the Players’ evening on Thursday 3rd September from 6pm at Goldington Road, exclusively for Season Ticket holders.

The new incentive was this year included in your Season Ticket package with an early chance to hear the views of the Director of Rugby, captain and other selected players ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

A fans’ forum will follow the end of training at 7pm, but supporters will have a chance to mingle with the new recruits and existing Blues players between 6pm – 8pm. The players will also be modelling the new away jersey.

MATCH PREVIEW V SCARLETS

Bedford Blues head off to Wales this weekend to complete their pre-season fixture list with a tricky tie against Pro 12 giants the Scarlets on Saturday afternoon.

Mike Rayer’s men will be making their way to Llandovery RFC’s Church Bank Playing Fields to take on one of the biggest teams in Wales rugby and a side who defeated Championship rival Jersey 40-27 last weekend.

The Blues take a squad of 26 players across the Brecon Beacons but will be without skipper Nick Fenton-Wells who has suffered a back spasm while Hayden Thompson-Stringer misses out with a hip injury.

FORMER PLAYERS AUTUMN LUNCHEON

This season’s Former Players Autumn Luncheon will be held on Saturday 3 October in the Blues Marquee as Bedford lock horns with Nottingham in the Blues second home league outing of the new campaign.

The hospitality lunch and entertainment affords a wonderful opportunity for those former players who are able to attend to have an update with their contemporaries, reminisce on days gone by and equally importantly to show their support for the current Blues side.

A three course lunch will be followed by an address by FPA Chairman Leigh Mansell before we hear from today’s squad prior to the 3pm Kick Off. Gates open at 12 noon with arrival at 12:30 prompt.

ACADEMY BEAT SCOTTISH

The Blues Academy U19s kicked off their season with a hard fought win against London Scottish Academy U20s, by 26pts – 14 on scorching hot day at Goldington Road.  With the match played in three 30 minute periods, and London Scottish playing seven Under 20 players in the 1st and 3rd periods, with the 2nd period limited to U19s only, the afternoon allowed both sides to test a large squad of players.

The 1st period saw the older Scottish players putting Bedford under pressure in the set piece.  Scottish won a stream of good ball from the lineout and gave the Blues poor ball in the set scrum, but the Blues defence held, and the period ended with no score for either side.

MATCH REPORT V PLYMOUTH ALBION

Bedford Blues continued their preperations for the Greene King IPA Championship season with a seven try 18-45 win over Plymouth Albion at Brickfields on Saturday evening. There were two tries for Pete White along with one apiece for Myles Dorrian, George Perkins, Hayden Thompson-Stringer, Jordan Burns and Camilo Parili-Ocampo.

Albion took the lead early on with a well struck Bill Searle penalty before the Blues kicked into gear with two tries quick fire tries. White scored from close range having been played in by Joel Conlon before Dorrian took advantage of some lacklustre defending to score under the posts. The Australian converted both to make it 3-14.

PRITCH CALLS TIME ON CANADA CAREER

After 61 Caps, a record breaking 607 Points - made up of 18 Tries, 104 Conversions and 103 Penalties - and three Rugby World Cups in 2003, 2007 and 2011, James Pritchard has announced his retirement from international rugby. Here is what Skippy had to say about the decision.

SEASON TICKET PACK UPDATE AND ARRIVALS

For those Bedford Blues supporters who have purchased a 2015-16 Season Ticket, your welcome pack will be sent out next week, Tuesday 25 August, and your ticket to Championship rugby at Goldington Road will be with you very soon.

While every effort is made for your ticket to arrive quickly and safely, there is always the chance that it will take a little longer than expected. If you have not received your ticket by next weekend, Sunday 30 August, then please contact the club so that we can address any potential issue.

MATCH PREVIEW V PLYMOUTH ALBION

One week on from the opening friendly encounter of pre-season, Bedford Blues are heading down to Devon for a training camp and match against Plymouth Albion which kicks off at 5pm on Saturday evening.

Once again, the Blues will be making full use of their squad by naming 29 players to feature in the game  including a Blues debut for winger George Perkins and a welcome return to action for Charlie Clare and Ollie Dodge
