With the regular season behind them, Bedford Blues head into the Greene King IPA Championship play-offs full of confidence and keen to rock the boat as Champions-elect Bristol visit Goldington Road on Sunday afternoon.
 
With the Sky Sports cameras in tow, the Blues head into Sunday's encounter as underdogs following an end of season 6-39 loss to Bristol last weekend. But if there is one thing that the Blues thrive on, it's being written off before a game - or even the season - kicks off.

BLUES SECURE TWO MORE FOR 16/17

Bedford Blues building process for the 2016/17 season has continued with the signing of  talented young prop Christian Judge and the re-signing of fan favourite and Dream Team fly half Jake Sharp.

Judge, 23, has signed on at Goldington Road from Plymouth Albion and has been the standout prop in National One this season. Standing at 5ft 11ins tall and weighing in at 116kg, Judge previously played for Launceston and helped Cornwall to victory in the 2014/15 County Championship at Twickenham.

PLAY-OFF SEMI FINAL PREVIEW V BRISTOL

After 1,760 pulsating minutes of Championship rugby, the season has finally concluded with Bedford Blues finishing in fourth position to set up a mouth-watering semi-final tie against table-topping Bristol this Sunday 1 May (KO 3:15pm).

The two sides have played each other four times already this season with the win tally finely balanced at two each - one in the league and one in the cup - meaning that Sunday’s first leg at Goldington Road is all set to be an instant classic.

SHARP & TAPLEY NAMED IN DREAM TEAM

GREENE KING IPA CHAMPIONSHIP DREAM XV 2015-16

Following a hugely successful season which has seen Bedford Blues finishing fourth in the league to set up a play-off encounter with Bristol, Jake Sharp and Pat Tapley have been included in the Greene King IPA Championship Dream Team.

Opposition coaches voted that fly half Sharp and winger Tapley had performed the best in their respective positions throughout the 2015-16 campaign.

FENTON-WELLS TO JOIN BRISTOL

Ahead of the Championship play-off semi-final, Blues can confirm that captain Nick Fenton-Wells has agreed a deal to sign for opponents Bristol.
 
As a consequence of this decision, the club feels that it is in the best interest of all parties that Nick does not play any part in the play-off games and he will therefore not be available for selection.
 
Bedford Blues Chairman Geoff Irvine said: "I appreciate that supporters will feel very disappointed but the club has been put in a compromising position due to Nick’s decision and, as such, we feel that this is the correct course of action to take given the circumstances."

SEATED TICKETS RELEASED FOR PLAY-OFF SEMI FINAL

An additional allocation of Eagle Stand and Ground Entry tickets have now been released for the Play-Off Semi Final on Sunday 1 May v Bristol with the best seats in the house available.

Season Ticket holders have now passed the deadline for early purchase of their existing seat, but will find a good selection of premium seats available online for just £20 in the stand.

Supporters will be able to purchase tickets for next weekend online at www.theclubshop.co.uk/bedfordblues for the quickest transaction or pop into the Club this week between 9am - 6pm.

LONDON SCOTTISH WIN BEDFORD 10s

London Scottish were deserved winners of the Bedford Blues U19 10-a-side Tournament, beating a strong Loughborough University side by 21pts – 7 in an entertaining final at Goldington Road.

The competition was designed to showcase the player development work being carried out by a number of Championship clubs as well as giving the players a competitive focus to end the season.  With six sides participating in two pools of three, there was non-stop rugby all day.

MATCH REPORT V BRISTOL

The opening game of the Bedford v Bristol trilogy went the way of the visitors as they picked up a convincing 6-39 victory at Goldington Road on Saturday afternoon.

Despite an impressive 3224 fans cramming into the ground, the Blues faithful had nothing more to cheer  than two first half Myles Dorrian penalties while Bristol, in contrast, ran in six tries during the encounter.

Things didn’t start brightly for the Blues and they were three points down when Callum Sheedy slotted a penalty. Sadly, James Pritchard’s afternoon was brought to a premature end with the fullback leaving the field with an arm injury.

ACADEMY ANNOUNCE SQUAD FOR 10s

After their final training session on Saturday lunchtime the Blues Academy have finalised and announced their squad for the Bedford U19 10-a-side competition at Goldington Road on Sunday, April 24th.

There are some exciting line-ups in prospect.  The Blues first game is at 1.30 when they play Moseley.  The two exiles teams, London Scottish and London Welsh, face each other at 2pm, and Bedford Blues take on Loughborough University at 2.30pm.  Play commences at 12 noon with the first game between London Welsh and Ealing.

CHAIRMAN PAYS TRIBUTE TO FANS, SPONSORS & TOOPS

The Bedford Blues AGM was held on Wednesday evening with shareholders being invited along to Goldington Road to hear an update from Chairman Geoff Irvine and then have the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have.

Speaking to the packed meeting, Mr Irvine said: “We’ve had a fantastic season and I think we’ve played some of the best rugby this year that I’ve seen. The result of that means that financially we are in the best position that we’ve been in for 15 years. Hopefully, one day I’ll be able to show everyone a set of accounts where we break even!
