GET INVOLVED IN THE FOLLOWERS BIG CLEAN UP THIS SATURDAY

The Blues’ Followers will begin the big clear up this Saturday as they start to carry out a number of tasks every Saturday over the summer months to help tidy up Goldington Road and improve the ground in the lead up to another exciting Championship season, and they need your help!

The Club are investing significant sums again this year on a facilities project at the home of Bedford Blues in the off season, but need the support of the followers to complement the work with an array of smaller jobs including painting, weeding and general tidying, as well as some larger jobs headed up by chief Followers Phil Novis and Baz Townsend.

FORMER BLUE TAKES ON SPORT RELIEF CYCLE CHALLENGE

Chris ‘Dumper’ Bailward, who scored one of the most flamboyant tries ever seen at Twickenham, is set to pedal over 2,000 miles in aid of Sport Relief – and he’s looking for your support!

Dumper’s try, at the start of the second half in the infamous Cup Final victory in 1975, kick-started a brilliant performance in the win over Rosslyn Park, to make Bedford, captained by Budge Rogers, Champions of England.

DAVID FRANCOMBE 1967-2016

The Club was deeply saddened to hear that former player David Francombe was killed in a tragic aircraft accident in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday.

Dave played for the Blues in the back row between 1986-90 when he was a student at Bedford College. He was a member of the side which gained promotion to Courage League 1 in 1989.

When he completed his studies he returned to his birthplace in Kenya, continued playing rugby and also captained the Kenya national side.

He gained  his pilot's licence, became a self-employed crop sprayer and settled in Narok with his wife Cally and his son and daughter.

BLUES CAR BOOT SALE RETURNS ON SUNDAY 29 MAY

The popular Bedford Blues car boot sale is back on Sunday 29th May and will kick start with a double header with the Goldington Road gates open on Monday 30th May also.

Get down to the rugby club every Sunday from there on, gates open at 8:30am for sellers and 9am to punters looking to grab themselves a bargain from any one of the pitches.

The cost for a pitch is just £7 in the back car park with buyers coming in for just £1 between 9am – 1pm. Entrance is through the front gate where our man Ian will look after you.

COVERAGE OF THE PLAY-OFF FINAL IN THE EAGLE BAR

The Club will be open for both legs of the Championship Play-Off final between Doncaster Knights and Bristol with a place in the Aviva Premiership awaiting the winner.

Coverage on Sky Sports will be screened in the upstairs Eagle Bar for both legs, Wednesday 18 and 25 May, with doors opening at 19:30 prompt for 19:45 Kick Off.

Support your club by joining us to watch the final having missed out in the semi against favourites Bristol. There will be special Happy Hour beer prices and some enjoyable banter at the Blues!

TWO MORE ADDED FOR 16/17 CAMPAIGN

Bedford Blues are delighted to announce two further signings ahead of the 2016/17 Greene King IPA Championship season.

Heading to Goldington Road will be back rower Jason Hill who joins from Glasgow Warriors while fullback Elliot Clements-Hill is make the short journey from Ampthill.

Hill, who stands 6ft 4ins tall and weighs 108kg, joined Glasgow Warriors on a partnership contract for season 2015/2016. The 26-year-old played for the Scotland Club XV in 2015, scoring a try and being named man of the match in a 23-18 victory over the Ireland Club XV.

MATCH REPORT V BRISTOL

In the end, it just wasn't to be as Bristol put in another big performance to ensure that it was them and not Bedford Blues who will be in the Greene King IPA Championship Final against Doncaster Knights.

The Blues certainly gave their all, as they have throughout the season, but the host team proved too strong as they ran in six tries to Bedford's three which were courtesy of a Penalty try, Dean Adamson and Paul Tupai.

MATCH PREVIEW V BRISTOL

Bedford Blues head into Sunday’s Greene King IPA Championship play-off second leg knowing that they will have to put in a performance of Leicester City proportions to have any chance of reaching the final this season.

On Sunday, the Blues were well beaten 16-45 at Goldington Road by a clinical Bristol who ran in six tries to give themselves a 29 point cushion ahead of the second leg. But with no pressure on the Blues at all, the message from the coaches is simple - Go out there, express yourselves and do what Bedford do best.

HELLO TOM, GOODBYE MARK

Bedford Blues have continued their building process for the 2016/17 with the capture of talented centre Tom Farrell from London Irish, but the club will be bidding a fond farewell to lock Mark Flanagan who is joining Saracens on a two-year deal.
 
Farrell, 22, has been a part of the London Irish A-League squad this season, but he really made a name for himself while part of the Leinster Academy. Standing at 6ft 2ins tall and weighing in at 97kg, the centre has pace and power that will add plenty to the Blues midfield.
