SPORTSMAN'S DINNERS ANNOUNCED

The Bedford Blues Marquee is gearing up for a brace of sportsman’s dinners this season which will see two of the very best rugby speakers appearing at Goldington Road.

On Thursday 17th November, former England fly half Andy Goode will be appearing to share a few tales about his glorious career which saw him playing for the likes of Leicester Tigers, Saracens, Brive, Worcester Warriors and Newcastle.

Having finally hung up his kicking boots over the summer, Andy has turned his hand to TV punditry and after dinner speaking where he covers all things rugby and hair transplants!

MATCH REPORT V JERSEY REDS

Bedford Blues tasted defeat for a second time this season as they went down 14-9 to Jersey, but they left the island with their heads held high.

A much improved performance was notable from the first whistle but the Blues had opportunities to win it late on. A five metre lineout drive saw the ball gathered and grounded over the line but the ref called it back and awarded Jersey the scrum. Moments later, a Blues maul powered forward before being dragged down perilously close to the Jersey line but it was just a penalty.

Bedford Blues have named their 22 man squad which will be setting off over the English Channel this weekend to take on Jersey Reds. 

While Bedford may not have got their season off to the start that they would have hoped for as they lost 17-26 to Cornish Pirates, there were still plenty of positives to take from the game.

MATCH REPORT V CORNISH PIRATES

Bedford Blues start to the new Championship season didn't go as well as they had hoped as they went down 17-26 to Cornish Pirates on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues were guilty of lacking a spark on a damp afternoon as they struggled to put phases together against a Cornish side who typically relied on their pack to power them home to a 26-17 win.

Tries from Dean Adamson and Jason Hill were not enough for the hosts who made far too many mistakes and seemed to lack urgency for long periods.

MATCH PREVIEW V CORNISH PIRATES

The 2016/17 Championship season gets underway on Saturday afternoon as Bedford Blues welcome the Cornish Pirates to Goldington Road.
 
The familiar foes go head to head once more and, if last season is anything to go by - the aggregate score over the two league fixtures was 86-78 to Bedford - a high scoring game could be on the cards.
 
There has been a fair amount of change at Goldington Road with players coming and going and for the opening Championship fixture of the campaign, Bedford Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer gives competitive debuts to four summer signings while five new recruits take a place on the bench.
