MATCH REPORT V JERSEY REDS

Bedford Blues got back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a very important 13-15 win over Jersey Reds at Stade Santander International, but it should have been more.

The Blues had three good scoring chances deep in the Reds 22 during the game, but three times the home side pinched lineout ball and averted danger before chipping away at a narrow lead that Bedford had installed following a dreary first half.

Speaking after the game, injured player Will Hooley said: "It wasn't a classic and we weren't able to play the fast-flowing rugby that we like, but coming away from Jersey with four points was the important thing.

MATCH PREVIEW V JERSEY

Bedford Blues have made four changes to their starting line-up as they look to rediscover winning ways in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Following defeats to table-topping Ealing Trailfinders and Bristol, the Blues are looking to get back on track when they head over to Jersey to face the Reds on Saturday afternoon.

While the newly named Stade Santander International hasn't always been the happiest of hunting grounds for Bedford, clashes between the two clubs have always been exciting affairs and much of the same is expected this weekend.

MATCH REPORT V BRISTOL

While there was not a win for the Blues, there was some scintillating attacking rugby on display at Goldington Road on Saturday writes Bedfordshire on Sunday reporter Nick Smith.

Bedford fell to a 38-61 defeat at the hands of promotion favourites Bristol but did themselves no disservice against a side who were just better on the day, inagame which saw 15 tries ran in and 99 points scored.

The visitors got off toaflying start, scoring two tries in the first four minutes, with poor tackling letting the hosts down.

Bedford Blues will be calling on their 16th man this weekend as Bristol visit Goldington Road in Round 4 of the GKIPA Championship season.

Having suffered a first defeat of the campaign to Ealing Trailfinders last weekend, Mike Rayer charges will be looking to bounce back immediately but know that they will need to be at the top of their game as Bristol come to town.

Speaking ahead of the game Rayer said: "We're certainly looking forward to this one and especially off the back of that disappointing seconnd half last week. We allowed Ealing far too much time and space and to their credit, they took it.

SIX NATIONS TICKET APPLICATION DEADLINE REMINDER

The deadline for 2018 Six Nations ticket applications for Twickenham to watch England closes this Friday for Bedford Blues Season Ticket holders. 

Application emails with details were sent out a couple of weeks back with your application form, only entries received by Friday 22nd September will be processed. Unfortunately due to RFU international ticket restrictions, the Club are set to receive a small allocation and will be unable to fulfil many requested orders.

MATCH REPORT V EALING TRAILFINDERS

Bedford Blues tasted defeat for the first time this season as they were on the receiving end of a 45-25 loss against Ealing Trailfinders.

The Blues will be sorely disappointed with the second half which saw the host running away with the game and Bedford just couldn't find a way back into it.

Speaking at the full time whistle, hooker Tom Lindsay said: "I felt that we had it until half time but then silly errors and a couple of penalties let us down. They built pressure and it was hard to stop them.

ACADEMY DEVELOPMENT SQUAD IN ACTION

​Good luck to the Blues Academy Development Squad players in action this weekend around the globe!

Fly-half  Dan Lewis starts again in the 10 jersey for North Otago in their home game against Kings Country in the Mitre Heartlands Championship.

Scrum-half James Lennon and winger Ryan Hutler are in the Bishop's Stortford squad to play Plymouth Albion at home. Both James and Ryan played for the Blues in their warm-up fixture against Plymouth at the beginning of August at Goldington Road.

DATES SET FOR OCTOBER HALF-TERM RUGBY CAMP

This October Half-Term, Bedford Blues Community team will be hosting another rugby camp for children of all ages at Goldington Road as the rugby season gets into full swing.

The three-day rugby camp will run from Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th October under our new successful coaching direction; ‘Learn to Play the Blues way’ as well as some seasonal surprises and a Halloween themed final day!
