CZEKAJ ALL SET FOR 18/19 CAMPAIGN

With the first pre-season game against Plymouth Albion fast approaching, we caught up with Blues back Chris Czekaj to discuss all things Bedford.

Former Welsh international Czekaj has been a part of the Blues squad for the past year and is thoroughly enjoying another pre-season, particularly as he has a brand new role within the squad.

We had a chat with Chris during a training session at Core Performance Crossfit in Bedford as the forwards were finishing their weights session and the backs were about to embark on theirs.

Undoubtedly one of the best referees in world rugby having refereed in the Premiership, European Champions Cup, the Six Nations, the Rugby Championship and the World Cup! This will be a fantastic opportunity to hear stories from the other side of the whistle!

A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS

Bedford Blues and Ampthill Rugby Club have come to one another's aid to deal with a couple of fixture issues that could have scuppered everyone's fun.

With Dillingham Park suffering in the blazing sunshine, the Blues have opened the gates to Goldington Road so that the A's can fulfil their pre-season friendly against Ebbw Vale. The game will now kick-off at the conclusion of Bedford's match with Premiership Champions Saracens on Saturday 18th August.

JAMIE COMES HOME TO BEDFORD

Bedford Blues have strengthened their back line options for the coming Championship campaign with the capture of local lad Jamie Elliott.
 
Capable of playing on the wing or in the centre, Elliott, 25, has signed for his hometown club after leaving Northampton Saints in the summer.
 
Blessed with an impressive turn of pace and plenty of gas in the tank, Elliott will add additional fireworks to an already impressive set of backs at Goldington Road who will all be looking to push on from last season.

TACKLE HEIGHT TRIAL FOR CHAMPIONSHIP CUP

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has announced that a tackle height law trial is to take place in the new Championship Cup competition for the 2018/19 season. In collaboration with World Rugby, an amendment to Law 9.13 will operate in the new Cup competition, altering the definition of a high tackle from above the line of the shoulders to above the armpit line.

BLUES FITNESS BOOTCAMPS WITH OLI AND LEWIS

Two new Blues recruits, Lewis Robling and Oli Curry, will launch twice weekly Blues Fitness Bootcamps next Monday 30th July at Goldington Road.

The Fitness Bootcamps will be all welcoming, interactive exercise programmes ran by the two Blues players who approached the club looking to promote a healthy lifestyle in their new home of Bedford.

Curry, a Level 3 Personal Trainer with five years of Professional Rugby experience spanning over the English Premiership and Championship will run the bootcamps with his former Ealing Trailfinders teammate Robling.

PRE-SEASON TICKETS AND HOSPITALITY NOW ON SALE

Tickets and hospitality are now on sale for Bedford Blues pre-season fixtures against English Premiership Champions Saracens and National One side Bishop’s Stortford.

On Saturday 18th August European giants and partner club Saracens will again make the short journey north to Goldington Road giving supporters the chance to see some of the world's best players on display in the season curtain-raiser (KO 3pm).

SUMMER GROUND IMPROVEMENTS PLAN

The off-season at Bedford Blues has been a very busy one this summer with the usual facilities works and the creation of a new hospitality suite at Goldington Road.

In partnership with SDC Builders, the Club are well underway with a major project in replacing the former Lifesure Suite boxes with a permanent shared hospitality suite above the players gym near the Bedford Blues entrance.

NIGEL OWENS SPORTSMAN DINNER

We are just a couple of weeks away from the visit of Nigel Owens, one of the most respected officials in World Rugby, to the Blues Marquee for a Sportsman’s Dinner on Friday 20th July.

Those in attendance the last time Nigel visited, just three days before the 2015 Rugby World Cup final, were so enthralled with his after-dinner speech that he received a five minute standing ovation.

Renowned for his quick retorts to defuse even the ugliest of scenes on the field - "If you want a cwtch, do it after the match” - Owens has established himself as one of the best and most respected referees in the world.
