After mixed fortunes in the August pre-season warm up games, with a loss to Leinster, and wins against London Scottish and Esher U21, the Blues Academy start their regular season with a home game against Cambridge U21 XV on Saturday at Goldington Road (Kick Off 2.00 pm).

Cambridge U21s gave the Blues Academy two tough games last season, with Cambridge winning 22pts – 15 at Goldington Road in September, and the Blues, fielding a very young side, getting their revenge with a 29pts – 15 win on a murky night in Cambridge in March.

After a summer training with the Blues 1st XV scrum half Kieran Duffin and hooker TJ Harris, both of whom played in the March game, get their first start for the Academy this season.  In the pack 2nd row Matt Norfolk-Clarke plays his first game this season, and prop Josh Waller and flanker Oli Robinson return.  In the back line Chris Easton returns at fly half, Ben Meaden at centre, and Charlie Reed on the bench.  The Blues are captained from No.8 by ex-Dulwich College captain Felix Maddison.
