ACADEMY SQUAD V RAF

After wins against Oxford University U21s and Wasps Academy U19s this week, the Blues Academy have their third game in eight days when they travel to play the RAF U23 XV at RAF Halton on Saturday.  The game is at RAF Halton (directions below) with a 2.30 pm Kick Off.  Bedford beat the RAF U23 side six weeks ago by 45pts -10 at Goldington Road.  The RAF are in the final stages of preparation for the Inter-Services competition which takes place at the end of November.

Bedford again rotate their squad and make eight changes to the starting lineup that beat Wasps.

In the pack Liam Appleton starts at prop, Alex Burman in the 2nd row and Oli Robinson at open side flanker.   In the back line Chris Easton moves from fly half to scrum half and Roddy Giles comes in at fly half.  Will Foster and Jack Stapley start on the wings, with Charlie Reed coming into the centre.

The game is at RAF Halton, Coslett Pitches (off Chestnut Avenue), RAF Halton, HP22 5PG (on the B4009 near Wendover).  The pitches are accessed by turning off Chestnut Avenue into McEwen Ride.

 

Blues Academy Director Denis Ormesher said .…

“The wins against Oxford University and Wasps have been the result of a real squad effort, with every member of the squad playing a part.  We will need all the strength of the squad again against the RAF this weekend.  We have a number of players missing because of representative games (East Midlands, Eastern Counties and Surrey), and a number missing due to injury and availability.”

“The RAF will be a much tougher challenge that in the last game against them.  They have had an extra six weeks preparation and this time out they will be playing the majority of the squad that will play in their games against the Army and the Navy in the Inter-Services competition at the end of the month”.
