BLUES ACADEMY vs OXFORD UNIVERSITY

With the Blues away to Doncaster this weekend, Blues supporters have the chance to support the Blues Academy, when they take on the Oxford University U21 XV on Saturday, at Goldington Road, Kick Off 2.30 pm. The bar is open, and admission is free.
This is the second encounter this season against the students. The Blues beat the University in their away fixture three weeks ago by 32pts – 14. Oxford are in preparation for their annual Varsity game at Twickenham against Cambridge University on December 11th.
With three tough games coming up in the next week; Oxford at home this Saturday October 26th, Wasps at home on Wednesday October 29th (Kick Off 7.30 pm) and the RAF U23 XV away next Saturday November 1st, Bedford make a number of changes to their squad to face the students. Flanker Harry Agnew (cracked ribs), centre Ben Meaden (concussion) and full back Jack Stapley (hamstring) miss the game.
In the pack Liam Appleton (Somerset U18s and Filton College) starts at prop; Garth Spencer returns from Welsh Exiles duty at hooker, Alex Burman starts at 2nd row; Callum Strachen (Junior Blues) gets his first start at flanker; Oli Robinson (ex-Sedbergh School) returns from injury at open side and Steffan Osman-Wigggin (Eastern Counties U18) gets his first start at No. 8. In the back line flyhalf Roddy Giles (ex-Sedbergh School), full back George Silk (Stowe School) and centre Cameron Ives (St. Joseph's College, Ipswich) make their debuts. Cameron Clarke returns from Welsh Exiles duty in the centre, and winger James Aylott (Letchworth) gets his first start. Garth Spencer captains the side.
Blues Academy Director Denis Ormesher said … After a tough game at the weekend against Saints we have three tough games coming up in the next week – Oxford University and Wasps at home, followed by the RAF U23 XV away.
We did well against Oxford a few weeks ago but we expect them to be that better prepared this time out. We are missing a few players due to injury, and availability, but the lads we have brought in are chomping at the bit to show what they can do. With the Blues away in Doncaster we hope as many Bedford supporters as possible come along to support the Academy against the students.
