BOOJ TO LEAD THE BLUES

Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that Michael Le Bourgeois has been chosen as captain for the forthcoming Green King IPA Championship season.

Booj, as he is more commonly known, joined the Blues in 2013 having come through the ranks at Jersey, plying most of his rugby at outside-half or full-back. The 26-year-old has continued his development at the Blues and has become one of the most consistent performing centres in the league.

Confirming the appointment, Bedford Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "Michael has really matured over the last 18 months and has naturally developed into one of our on-pitch leaders. He took the reins at the end of last season for the play-offs and did an excellent job.

“His teammates respond well to his style of captaincy and we as coaches will be on hand to help him develop further in this role. He is also lucky to have a lot of Championship experienced players around him who will help guide him through the season.”

Speaking about the appointment, Booj said: "It is a real honour for me to be named captain of Bedford Blues and I'd like to thank Mike and all the coaches for showing such faith in me. I've had the pleasure of working with and learning from some excellent captains over the years and I'm really excited to have this opportunity to lead the Blues this season.

“I’ll have Mylo and Jake on hand to shape our game and then Toops and Mikey Howard driving the forwards, so I’ll still be able to continue to concentrate on performing well and leading by my actions"

Booj will lead the team this weekend when the Blues head to Wales to face Pontypridd ahead of the Friday night clash with Premiership and European champions Saracens at Goldington Road.
