COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH THIS SATURDAY AT BLUES

East Midlands return to the home of Bedford Blues for the first time in the County Championship since 2004 this Saturday 12th May against Cheshire (Kick Off 3pm).
This weekend, the home county representative side face Cheshire in the second game of the 2018 County Championship. Both sides made losing starts to the campaign last week and will be looking to put matters right this week.
Several old faces familiar to the Blues feature in the East Midlands coaching set up with Paul Turner as Head Coach. He is assisted by Ben Gilliver in the forwards and James Pritchard in the backs.
Gates are open at 1pm, two hours ahead of kick off to grab a bite to eat with Nos’s Nosh or a beer from the Scrum Bar. Ground entrance is £5.00 for adults and just £2 for Under 16s with tickets only available from the gate on match day.
Following their victory in the 2016 Division 2 County Plate the East Midlands Senior XV continue in the main Bill Beaumont Cup competition for the 2018 County Championship. In a new format the County Championship is now run over two seasons and the North Pool of Division One can be found here.
Fixtures in this pool in 2018 are:
05.05.2018
East Midlands 19 Eastern Counties 22
Cheshire 27 Yorkshire 34
Northumberland 20 Lancashire 64
12.05.2018
East Midlands v Cheshire
Lancashire v Eastern Counties
Yorkshire v Northumberland
19.05.2018
Northumberland v East Midlands
Lancashire v Cheshire
Eastern Counties v Yorkshire
These fixtures are a reversal of the 2017 fixtures and once the 2017 and 2018 results are combined at the end of the campaign the bottom side in the pool will be relegated to Division 2.
Only the results from 2018 will be used to determine who represents the Northern Pool against the Southern Pool winners in the 2018 Bill Beaumont Cup Final at Twickenham. The points and points difference in bold to the right of the table above illustrate how this aspect of the campaign is progressing following one match of the current season. Lancashire lead the way on points difference from Yorkshire both having gained bonus point wins.
