Last Saturday's brilliant win against Doncaster Knights saw Bedford Blues move into the top half of the Greene King IPA Championship table with further signs of improvement ahead of a testing trip to fifth placed Rotherham Titans this weekend.

The Blues continued their impressive start to 2015 as they overcame a strong Knights side to seal a last minute 35-29 victory with the foundations built on another fantastic set-piece. Two ever-present features on this new front-row powerhouse are Blues forwards Charlie Clare and James Currie who spoke to the official Club website ahead of what promises to be a titanic clash upfront against last season’s Championship semi-finalists.

Hooker, Clare said: “The win against Doncaster was really pleasing for all the lads, especially as we had lost to them twice before this season in the Cup. To add to that trailing by more than seven going into the last ten set us an uphill challenge, but we never gave in and came away with the points.

“The mood in camp this season has always been good as we try to keep looking ahead to the next game, but nothing replaces wins and at the moment it’s better than ever.”

Currie, speaking in reflection to the 9-23 half-time deficit, said: “We knew that it was going to be a tough game, especially as we were playing up the hill and against the wind in the first half. We adjusted the way we were playing at half-time and thankfully it worked for us.

“The set piece is going really well which gave us great field position and we were really happy with how the scrum went. I think things have just clicked and everyone’s gelling with time. We’re just creating more opportunities and managing to finish them off, Pat (Tapley) and Deano (Adamson) have been in absolutely outstanding form.”

Looking towards this weekend’s fixture, prop Currie added: “We’ve had some good sessions this week in preparation for Titans and we expect a physical battle against them, they’re a good side and have the ability to play from anywhere and change a game around in a matter of minutes so it’s all about focusing on ourselves and to continue what we’re doing.”

Commenting on Rotherham’s mixed fortunes of late and strong opening to the season, former Leicester Tigers Academy graduate, Clare said: “Rotherham may have lost a couple of games recently, but they’re still a good side and if anything it acts as a driver for them as there is no team like Titans to prove people wrong.

“We owe them one from the second game of the season as we didn’t really turn up. If you look at where we are now to when we last played them then there’s a big difference.”
