After last weekend’s victorious outing away at Plymouth, Bedford Blues Forwards Coach Martin Hynes is confident back on home turf this Saturday and is looking forward to another tight encounter against Jersey at Goldington Road (Kick Off 3pm).

The Blues won their first game of the season last Saturday, scoring four tries to secure an elusive try bonus point to elevate them up the and Championship table. Ahead of this weekend’s clash with the Islanders, the former Northampton Saints front rower maintains that improvement is the key objective and that he is confident the boys are heading in the right direction.

Hynes said: “It’s no secret that it was a huge relief to get the win and although it was hard fought, it actually made it more pleasing as it showed the spirit of the lads, which isn’t easy after a few losses, so that’s great.

“The lads implemented some of the things we’d been practicing in the week. They spotted opportunities that they thought would be beneficial and took them. It didn’t always work, but it shows that there’s been a process from them. They’ve identified what they need to do moving forward and we will keep improving each week.

“Jersey are a well organised outfit and bring a different challenge, they will be driving a lot of lineouts, not just in our areas, but from anywhere. They also now have a good running game and are quick at the breakdown, so with all these facets we need to keep our discipline and defence is certainly a focus.

“The boys will have done their own work, but as coaches we would like to implement a few things that we hope can cause Jersey problems. I’m confident going in to Saturday, but I always am, there are no easy games and we need the crowd behind us as they always are; I forecast another close game.”
