REED COMES HOME!

With Bedford Blues heading into the second block of pre-season training, the club are delighted to announce the signing of utility back Charlie Reed from Loughborough Students.

In a tale similar to Rich Lane, Charlie, 23,  is a Bedford born back who came through the ranks at the Junior Blues before heading on to play for the Blues Academy and Bedford Athletic.

He continued to play while at university in Manchester - including a stint in Sale Sharks sevens team - before heading to Loughborough Students where his dazzling displays last season saw him named as full-back in the Rugby Paper National One Team of the Season.

Primarily used at fullback or fly half by Loughborough, Charlie racked up an impressive 179 points out of the Students whopping 821 season tally last season excelling with the ball in both hand and from the kicking tee.

Speaking about the new signing, Bedford Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “This really is a great story of a local lad who was desperate to come back to his hometown club and I can’t speak highly enough of Charlie’s application and attitude over the last couple of months.

“After leaving the Junior Blues Colts, Charlie continued his development at university in Manchester and he’s followed it up with a standout year with Loughborough Students where he has just had a fantastic season.

“Charlie has fitted in brilliantly at the club and has impressed everyone during the first block of pre-season training. He thoroughly deserves this opportunity and we certainly hope he continues on this upward curve in his development..”

Bedford Blues have started their second block of pre-season training and are looking ahead to two home friendlies against Cambridge on Friday 23rd August and Cardiff Blues on Saturday 14th September. Tickets will be available very soon via the Blues website www.bedfordrugby.co.uk.
