Goldington Road is busily preparing to welcome the female population of the region for the Blues’ annual Ladies Day as we attempt to turn Bedford pink this Saturday against Ulster (Kick Off 2:30pm, gates open 12 noon).

Again in support of Cancer Research UK, there are attractions for both men and women in the Blues Marquee, as well as another much anticipated rugby match as Blues aim to continue their good form against the Irishmen in the British & Irish Cup.

On top of two-for-one ground entry for all ladies (available on the match day gate only), there will as always be a host of offers available on the day in the Blues Marquee, including:

The Blues Academy welcomed the Irish Exiles to Goldington Road on Sunday, and after an error strewn half were drawing 5 pts apiece, before scoring two tries in the second half to win by 15pts - 5.

The Exiles had the majority of the territory early in the game and it was the Exiles who scored first after 20 minutes.  Bedford won a lineout in their own 22 but tried to ship the ball flat across their back line only to concede a scrum.  The pack won the ball against the head but the Blues then gave it away again, and with the Bedford defence getting too narrow the Exiles worked an overlap on the right for full back Liam McGloughlin to score in the corner. 

Bedford Blues kick off their British and Irish Cup campaign with a trip to Carmarthen on Sunday afternoon as they prepare to face the Scarlets Select squad.

The Blues head into the game off the back of a dramatic late victory over Yorkshire Carnegie after Steffan Jones converted an 80th minute penalty to seal a 22-21 win.

Looking ahead to the game, Blues defence coach Ian Vass said: “Last week’s game was extremely attritional and took a lot out of the squad but with the game moving to Sunday, we’ve had an extra day to prepare and the lads have responded superbly.

It was a case of déjà vu, or should that be déjà Blues, on Saturday afternoon as Steffan Jones kicked a 50 odd metre penalty in the final minute of the game, just as he did at Ealing a fortnight ago, to give Bedford Blues a huge 22-21 victory over Yorkshire Carnegie at Goldington Road.
