Bedford Blues are hoping for Fireworks on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, on the pitch that is, as Nottingham Rugby arrive for a pivotal clash with both sides needing a win to lift them up the Championship table this Saturday at Goldington Road (KO 3pm).

Blues and their visitors, the Green and Whites, lay near the bottom of the standings, but with only six points separating 11th from the play-off spots there is still plenty of time for a mount a challenge towards the top, and a win this Saturday would certainly help.

MATCH REPORT V EALING TRAILFINDERS

Bedford Blues put in a huge second half fightback against high flying Ealing Trailfinders at Vallis Way on Saturday afternoon but they came up just a point short.

Trailing 17-3 at the interval, penalties from Myles Dorrian along with a converted Ollie Dodge try brought the Blues back into the game, but the home side went further ahead with a try ten minutes from time. The Blues kept knocking on the door and got their reward with a George Edgson try on the stroke of 80 minutes which ensured that Bedford left with a losing bonus.

MATCH PREVIEW V EALING TRAILFINDERS

After a two week British & Irish Cup break, Blues return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to the capital to take on Ealing Trailfinders at Vallis Way.

Bedford had shaken off their early season ring rust with two league victories over Richmond and Rotherham which they followed up with a win over the Dragons Premiership Select XV before being beaten in the Cup by Yorkshire Carnegie last weekend.

The hosts have made a solid start to the season and currently lie in fifth position with Bedford trailing them by four points and the Blues know Ealing have had some notable victories so far this season.

MATCH REPORT V YORKSHIRE CARNEGIE

Bedford Blues three match winning run came to a halt on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated 52-28 by Yorkshire Carnegie in the British & Irish Cup at Selby Rugby Club.

The game kicked off 15 minutes later than scheduled due to the Blues coach breaking down en route to the match, but a second half blitz from Carnegie wrapped up the win for the hosts.

Things had started brightly for the Blues who came firing out the blocks and Myles Dorrian had put the visitors ahead with two well struck penalties, but there was further disruption as hooker Sam James had to be replaced early on in proceedings with a shoulder injury.

Bedford Blues have named their squad to head to Selby Rugby Club on Saturday afternoon to take on Yorkshire Carnegie in Round Two of the British and Irish Cup.

The Blues got their cup campaign off to a positive start with a 46-33 bonus point win over the Dragons Premiership Select XV, but know that another tough challenge awaits them in Yorkshire against a Carnegie side who are yet to lose in the league this season.

Bedford ‘Pinks’ kicked off their 2016/17 British & Irish Cup campaign with a 46-33 bonus point win over the Dragons Premiership Select XV in an end-to-end game at Goldington Road on Saturday afternoon.

For the ninth season in a row, the Blues turned Pink for the annual Ladies Day which raises funds for Cancer Research UK and was once again well supported by 2218 fans in Goldington Road.
