Bedford Blues opened their British & Irish Cup campaign with a bonus point win over Nottingham at Lady Bay on Sunday afternoon.

Six tries ensured that the Blues headed home with maximum points but they were a little disappointed that Nottingham managed to run in four tries of their own to secure a bonus point of their own.

The game was only two minutes old when the Blues opened the scoring. Following on from his superb run last weekend to set up a try for Jordan Burns, George Edgson showed more skills to go on a mazing run to score but the extras went begging.

Bedford Blues have named their team to take on Nottingham in the first round of the British & Irish Cup this Sunday at Lady Bay.
 
After six league games, the two teams are evenly matched having won four and lost two and they have an almost identical points for and against record. Games between the two are always hotly contested and much of the same can be expected this weekend.

MATCH REPORT V ROTHERHAM

A 34-14 win over Rotherham Titans gave Bedford Blues two victories on the bounce in the Greene King IPA Championship.

The Blues ran in five tries yesterday to give them a bonus point victory, with Dean Adamson and Jordan Burns grabbing a score apiece, before Rich Lane ran in Bedford’s fifth with a superb solo effort.

The game started slowly, with the two sides battling in the midfield and the only real chance of note came in the fourth minute, when Adamson’s kick forward gave the winger something to chase, only for the ball to roll out of bounds.

PAUL 'TOOPS' TUPAI TESTIMONIAL YEAR STARTS TOMORROW

Tomorrow’s match will also double as the launch of Paul Tupai’s Testimonial Year with a party in the marquee from 6pm with live band, MC Martin Hynes and plenty of fun and games.

Toops’ joined Bedford in 2008 as a fresh faced 32-year-old and has since gone on to play 245 games for the Blues scoring 45 tries in the process, including a memorable hat-trick against the Cornish Pirates in 2014.

Bedford Blues will be looking to make the most of home advantage when Rotherham Titans come to town on Saturday afternoon.

Bedford will be buoyed having overcome Jersey Reds on the road last weekend and now they will be hoping to transfer that winning mentality back to Goldington Road this Saturday.

Looking ahead to the game, Blues Forwards Coach Martin Hynes said: "It may not have been the prettiest of games against Jersey last week but the lads rolled up their sleeves, put in a big shift and came away with four points and you can't ask for much more than that.

The annual Fireworks Display and Funfair is back at Bedford Blues this Friday 3rd November 2017, and ticket sales are now open, buy yours today by clicking here to save £3 on gate prices.

If it is easier to pop into the club, the Followers will be selling Fireworks tickets from the marquee between 12-2 and 4-6pm each day in the week. Last minute sales on Friday will be available from Goldington Road ticket offices.

The club has setup another spectacular display which we hope to attract another sellout attendance.
