Bedford Blues new prop Tomas Gilardon Paz has landed in the UK, has already made himself at home at Goldington Road and is itching to get his Blues career underway.

Just hours after stepping off the plane from New York, the Argentinian international was in the club’s kit room to be measured up for his new attire.

Tomas, who stands at six feet one inch tall and tips the scales at 19 stone, moves to Bedford from Buenos Aries side San Isidros whose most famous player was Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara.

Bedford Blues are pleased to announce the signing of Argentina international prop Tomas Gilardon Paz.

The 24 year old, who stands at six feet one inch tall and tips the scales at 19 stone, has most recently been playing rugby San Isidros in Buenos Aries.

The prop, who studied at the Universidad del Salvador, picked up three caps for his country during the spring.

No one likes a cliché, but it certainly was a game of two halves at Brickfields on Friday night as Bedford came from 13-3 down to win 16-27.

Bedford took an early lead when Mike Le Bourgeois blasted over a penalty after the hosts were penalised at the ruck, but Declan Cusack converted two penalties to put Albion in the lead. With the score at 3-6 and 40 minutes on the clock, everything seemed manageable but a loose pass from Mark Atkinson which went behind the intended target was snapped up by Tom Bowen who scored with Cusack adding the extras.

It may have been a chilly night but plenty of people turned out for the Armed Forces night at Goldington Road on Friday, but there was little to cheer as the Blues slipped to a 13-26 defeat to Moseley.

After the game, Sam Roberts caught up with Bedford's try scorer Neville Edwards who gave his frank opinion of what the Blues need to do to get back on track. Tom Armes also chatted with Sam to express his views on the game and to give Moseley credit for their performance.

It will be a case of back to the drawing board for Bedford Blues after they suffered a second home defeat of the season going down 13-26 against a revitalised Moseley on Friday evening.

There were 2,545 fans crammed into Goldington Road for the Friday night lights but despite a positive start, the Blues just weren’t able to break down a stubborn Moseley defence who seized their opportunities when they were presented.

Moseley Fly half Caolan Ryan missed a penalty in the third minute after his pack won a penalty on a Bedford scrum and then Jake Sharp pulled an effort just left of the uprights when the visitors were pinged for not releasing a tackle.

For a fourth time this season, Bedford Blues were edged out by the smallest of margins as the Cornish Pirates picked up a 16-13 win at the Mennaye Field on Sunday afternoon.

Constant drizzle did nothing to assist either side over the 80 minutes but this was a well fought contest between two pretty evenly matched teams. In the end, it was a single penalty that separated the two.

The match was only minutes old when assistant referee Dino Maddern was forced off with an injury but once the game was underway for a second time it was a full-bloodied contest right up until the last minute.

Sunday proved to be another frustrating afternoon for the Bedford Blues players and coaches as a late Matt Jarvis penalty secured the win for Nottingham at Meadow Lane.

Bedford got off to the best possible start when Paul Tupai bundled over from close range but when Joe Munro charged down Brendan Burke's attempted clearance kick to score a couple of minutes later to score, it was always going to be one of those afternoon's.

James Pritchard converted two penalties and Jarvis replied with one of his own to make it 10-11 before Nick Fenton-Wells rounded off a good forwards try with the skipper adding the extras at the interval.

Bedford Blues limped to their fifth defeat of the season at Nottingham this afternoon as late penalty earned the Green & Whites a last-gasp 26-24 victory.

Poor decision-making and infringements once again cost the Blues as they let victory slip through their fingers at Meadow Lane.

With neither side firing on all cylinders, neither eighth placed Bedford or 11th placed Nottingham achieved any sustained periods of ascendancy during the 80 minutes.

For the Blues it was an afternoon of prolonged malfunction as both of the hosts’ tries came from Blues mistakes, while all of Matt Jarvis’ penalties seemed to stem from players needlessly infringing.
