Bedford Blues slipped to a second defeat on the bounce as high flying London Scottish picked up a 12-29 victory at Goldington Road on Saturday afternoon.

It was a tough afternoon at the office for Bedford and their cause wasn’t helped as they conceded three yellow cards during an afternoon where discipline played an important role.

BADEN SWITCHES BLUES FOR THE BLUES

Bedford Blues are excited to announce that former Auckland Blues player Baden Kerr has signed a contract with the club until the end of the season.

Kerr, who can play at both fly-half or full-back, made his Super Rugby debut for the Blues against Hurricanes in 2013, as well as representing his club Counties Manakau in the ITM Cup.

Standing at 6ft 3ins and weighing in at around 90kg, the 25-year-old is an imposing figure not just in attack but also defence, adding further size and strength to the Bedford squad.

Bedford Blues return home on Saturday 31st January after a three-week break from their home fortress as they prepare to take on Championship play-off contenders and third placed London Scottish at Goldington Road this weekend (KO 3pm).  

Following a superb start to 2015, winning vital games against Moseley and Doncaster Knights, Bedford experienced their first loss of the year last time out away at Rotherham Titans and will need a sizeable and loud home crowd to cheer them to victory versus a team with lofty Premiership ambitions.

PRITCHARD LOOKING TO PLAY OWN GAME

Following defeat away to Rotherham Titans last Saturday, Bedford Blues will be looking to bounce straight back against third placed London Scottish when they come to Goldington Road on Saturday 31st January (Kick Off 3pm).

Looking ahead to the Exiles match, stand-in skipper James Pritchard is searching for further improvements and to replicate a performance similar to that in the second half of the teams’ last meeting at the Richmond Athletic Ground, when the Blues ran in three tries compared to just one from the home side.

MOBBS MEMORIAL MATCH RETURNS TO BEDFORD

Goldington Road will be opening its gates on Wednesday 1st April for the annual Mobbs Memorial Match as Bedford Blues prepare to go to battle against The British Army (Kick Off 7:45pm).

Tickets for the whole event, including an East Midlands XV v Army ‘A’ warm-up fixture are available online here at the cost of just £10 for adults and £2 for children under 16.

MATCH REPORT V ROTHERHAM

Clifton Lane continues to be a thorn in Bedford Blues side as Mike Rayer's men went down 34-19 to Rotherham Titans on Saturday afternoon.

If this is to be the Titans last season at Clifton Lane as reported in their local media then there may be a few who won't miss it given that Bedford haven't won here since 2012.

This game did have everything though. Rain, hail, snow, wind and sunshine. Rotherham got off to a perfect start when the ball was stripped from a Bedford maul and made its way to Rotherham hooker Tom Cruse who was able to gallop up the other end of the pitch to score in the first minute with Barrett converting.

MATCH PREVIEW V ROTHERHAM TITANS

Bedford Blues have started 2015 in fine form but they know that they will have to be at their best if they are to take anything from Rotherham Titans on Saturday afternoon.
 
Trips to Clifton Lane haven’t been too fruitful of late and you have to go back to March 2012 for the Blues last win there when tries from Ollie Dodge, Don Barrell, Josh Bassett and Darryl Veenendaal helped Bedford to a 19-32 in the play-offs.
 
Bedford have enjoyed two wins out of two this year when they overcame Moseley a fortnight ago before turning over Doncaster Knights with a final minute try at Goldington Road last weekend.

FRONT ROW BOYS SEEKING COMPLETE PERFORMANCE

Last Saturday's brilliant win against Doncaster Knights saw Bedford Blues move into the top half of the Greene King IPA Championship table with further signs of improvement ahead of a testing trip to fifth placed Rotherham Titans this weekend.

The Blues continued their impressive start to 2015 as they overcame a strong Knights side to seal a last minute 35-29 victory with the foundations built on another fantastic set-piece. Two ever-present features on this new front-row powerhouse are Blues forwards Charlie Clare and James Currie who spoke to the official Club website ahead of what promises to be a titanic clash upfront against last season’s Championship semi-finalists.
