MATCH PREVIEW V SARACENS

Bedford Blues have named their squad to take on Premiership and European Champions Saracens at Goldington Road on Friday night.
 
The game, which kicks off at 7.45pm, will be the first chance for Blues fans to see the new squad in action at Goldington Road while also having the opportunity to see both the Premiership and European Cups on display when Saracens pay a visit.
 
Bedford racked up a convincing 66-14 win over Pontypridd last weekend but they know that a much tougher challenge awaits them on Friday night.

SEASON TICKET HOLDER 'MEET THE PLAYERS' NIGHT

The Club are pleased to announce further details of this season's ‘Meet the Players’ evening which will be held on Thursday 25th August from 6pm at Goldington Road, exclusively for 2016-17 Season Ticket holders.
 
The new incentive was again included in the Season Ticket package following the success of last season's inaugural session with an early chance to hear the views of the Director of Rugby Mike Rayer, new captain Michael Le Bourgeois and other selected players ahead of the Championship campaign.

MAKE YOUR PLANS FOR FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE RUGBY

The Blues arrive back at Goldington Road this Friday night for the opening home match of the season against European and English Champions Saracens as rugby returns to Bedford with a bang (Kick Off 19:45).

Fresh from a very successful pre-season training camp in Cardiff with a healthy 66-14 victory against Pontypridd, Mike Rayer’s men will be targeting another good performance versus the sizeable task Mark McCall’s troops will deliver.

SUPPORTER RAISES FUNDS FOR ON-SITE DEFIB

The Club would like to extend their thanks to Georgia Nash who has helped raise funds for a new permanent defibrillator in the Eagle Bar at Goldington Road.

Whilst the Club hope supporters will not have a need for it, the defib device, which gives a high energy electric shock to the heart to someone who is in cardiac arrest, has proved a lifesaving addition to many sporting grounds around the UK.

The Blues Medical team already have one pitchside and the on-site Ambulance is more than well equipped, but to have a permanent defib at Goldington Road all-year round is a welcome addition.

MATCH REPORT V PONTYPRIDD

97 days on from the Championship play-off semi-final defeat to Bristol, Bedford Blues were back in action in preparation for the coming campaign as they defeated Welsh Principality side Pontypridd 14-66 on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues, who were fielding 12 new faces in the match day squad, ran in ten tries during the course of the game with Pat Tapley securing a hat-trick, debutant scrum half Tom James scored a brace while Jacob Fields, Elliot Clements-Hill, Jordan Burns, Jason Hill and Jack Culverhouse all crossed the whitewash. Myles Dorrian converted five of the tries with Jake Sharp chipping over three more.

BLUES NAME TEAM FOR SEASON OPENER IN WALES

Seven of Bedford Blues new signings will start the pre-season clash against Pontypridd on Saturday afternoon.

The game, which kicks off at 2.30pm at Cilfynydd RFC, will be the first competitive action of the season for Mike Rayer’s squad and follows a training camp in Cardiff.

As well as the seven debutants in the starting line-up, there will also be five new faces on the replacements bench as the Blues coaches make full use of the squad in preparation for the campaign ahead. Mike Howard will captain the team with newly appointed skipper Michael Le Bourgeois among the replacements.

BOOJ TO LEAD THE BLUES

Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that Michael Le Bourgeois has been chosen as captain for the forthcoming Green King IPA Championship season.

Booj, as he is more commonly known, joined the Blues in 2013 having come through the ranks at Jersey, plying most of his rugby at outside-half or full-back. The 26-year-old has continued his development at the Blues and has become one of the most consistent performing centres in the league.

The Followers have been putting in a superb shift this summer helping prepare the ground for the new season, and now it's time for the big final push!

This Saturday and throughout the rest of August, Phil Novis and Baz Townsend will lead the tidy up at Goldington Road to help maintain the facilities for the coming campaign - and they need your help!

The Club have invested significant sums this year on a facilities project at the home of Bedford Blues, but need the support of the followers to complement the work with an array of smaller jobs including painting, weeding and general tidying, as well as some larger jobs.

GULLIVER TO HEAD COMMUNITY RUGBY DEPARTMENT

Bedford Blues are thrilled to announce that their new Community Rugby Department will be headed up by former player and current coach Ben Gulliver.
 
Gulliver has an impressive playing CV having competed at the highest level with both Worcester Warriors and Leicester Tigers. The lock started his career with the Saracens Academy before playing for Coventry, Plymouth Albion, Cornish Pirates, Bedford Blues and, most recently, Ampthill.
