Bedford Blues are delighted to announce prop Sean McCarthy as club captain for the 2019/20 Greene King IPA Championship season.

The impact made by McCarthy since joining the Blues from Jersey Reds in the summer of 2017 has been truly remarkable and he has truly embedded himself in the Bedford front row making over 50 appearances in his two seasons at Goldington Road.

Following the retirement of scrum half Lee Dickson at the end of last season, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer has installed the captaincy on 28 year old McCarthy who is already one of the senior and most respected members of the Bedford squad.

Bedford Blues will be going head to head with their Welsh namesakes ahead of the Championship season when they welcome the boys from Cardiff to Goldington Road on Saturday 14th September.

The battle of the Blues will see Mike Rayer pitting his wits against John Mulvihill in a highly anticipated pre-season friendly just a week before the Championship Cup kicks off against Ealing Trailfinders.

With Bedford taking on Cambridge on Friday 23rd August, the challenge against Wales’ Capital Region will be a stern one just a week before the 2019/20 campaign.

Bedford Blues plans for the coming Championship campaign are continuing with the announcement of a pre-season friendly against Cambridge at Goldington Road on Friday 23rd August.

Richie Williams charges - who are also being coached by former Blues man Dan Richmond - will be heading along the A428 to face the Blues with kick-off at 7.45pm.

The annual Followers Summer Works programme starts this Saturday 6th July at Goldington Road and we need your help! The preparation for the new season starts now with lots of ground tasks required to support the club.

Work will include weeding, clearing vegetation, pruning, sweeping, cleaning, painting, spreading shingle, decorating and much more. Just come along any Saturday morning between 8am and 1pm to lend a hand. If you can spare any small tools, gloves, garden equipment or paintbrushes please bring them along.

The excitement of a new Championship season has ramped up with confirmation of the fixtures for the 2019/20 campaign which will include a Boxing Day derby against Ampthill at Goldington Road.

With 4,500 fans descending through the Bedford Blues gates on 26th December 2018 for a friendly fixture, rugby fans will be able to get their festive feast once again when the Blues take on Ampthill in the highly anticipated competitive fixture.

Greene King IPA Championship side Bedford Blues are on the lookout for a volunteer to join their Performance Analysis Team for the 2019/20 campaign.

Having finished third in the Championship last season, the Blues will be looking to push on with their league and cup campaign in the second tier of English rugby.

Analysis has become an increasingly important part of the preparation process and the Blues are looking for someone to join the team to assist with Performance Analysis duties on a flexible basis.

Bedford Blues Ltd will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) next Tuesday 11th June in the Scrum Hall at Goldington Road (7:30pm start). The meeting is strictly Shareholders only, by invitation.

The formal documentation has been sent to shareholders who requested communication previously.

Blues Community are pleased to announce their next TWO fun filled Rugby Camps for the Summer Holidays between the dates of Tuesday 20th –  Thursday 22nd and Tuesday 27th – Thursday 29th August at Goldington Road. Click here to book now.

Both camps are open to boys and girls between the ages of 5-15 with all levels of ability welcome and will be held at the home of the Blues. Led by Head of Community, Dominic Fraser, and supported by experienced coaches, including Blues players, youngsters will all enjoy a first-class rugby experience.
