Hot on the heels of the first new signings for the 2019/20 Championship season, Bedford Blues have added two more players to their ranks.

Heading to Goldington Road next season will be back rower Joe Atkinson who joins from Premiership side Wasps and Welsh prop Scott Jenkins who has been recruited from Scarlets.

Speaking about the new additions, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “It is great that we are able to add two very impressive players to our ranks and the spine of the squad for next season is really taking shape. 

Bedford Blues building process for the 2019/20 season has kicked on with the signing of two new players and a try-scoring dynamo penning a brand new deal.

Heading to Goldington Road next season will be back rower Dan Temm from Yorkshire Carnegie, Northampton Saints utility back Matt Worley who has been in fine form while on loan at Bedford this season, and staying for another campaign will be try-machine Dean Adamson who has put pen to paper on a new contract.

The 2019 Guinness Six Nations comes to an end this Saturday 16th March. It is still all to play for with Wales, England and Ireland all still in with a chance of being crowned champions.

Last week it was confirmed that after 96 appearances and six tries for Bedford Blues, Camilo Parilli-Ocampo would be moving on to pastures new at Chinnor next season.

A quarter of a century ago Parilli-Ocampo was just a small boy growing up amongst the agriculture of Valera, western Venezuela, not well-known as a hotbed of young rugby talent. But fast-forward to today and that boy is now much, much bigger and an invaluable contributor to the Bedford Blues pack, having played at Goldington Road since the 2014/15 season.

It was to be a disappointing afternoon in Yorkshire for the Bedford Blues as they went down 27-20 to a stubborn Doncaster Knights.

Two tries from Ed Coulson plus a Jake Sharp conversion and penalty meant it was 17-15 at the break, but an early second half try from prop Joe Sproston along with a conversion and penalty from Dougie Flockhart saw the hosts seal victory despite a late Tadgh McElroy try which secured a losing bonus point for the Blues.

A sellout 5000 crowd crammed themselves into Goldington Road on Friday night to see the future stars of England Rugby run out comfortable 35-10 winners over Italy in the fourth round of the Under 20 Six Nations tournament.

Tries from Tom Seabrook, Kieran Wilkinson, Ollie Fox and Ollie Sleighthome sealed a bonus point win for England but it certainly wasn’t one way traffic as the Italians scored two splendid tries of their own.

Bedford Blues will be looking for a return to winning ways when they make the journey to Castle Park on Saturday afternoon to face Doncaster Knights in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Bedford head into the game off the back of a one point defeat to Yorkshire Carnegie last weekend - the same deficit which they beat Doncaster back in October at Goldington Road when the two teams faced one another last.
