Bedford Blues are delighted to announce a partnership with the Bedfordshire Young Farmers for the 2019-20 season, including more jointly planned events and reduced ticket prices at matches.

The partnership has been born via links with Blues Community as the rugby club increase involvement with more community organisations through the values of rugby and the Blues.

The Club are pleased to announce details of the Season Ticket holders ‘Meet the Players’ evening to be held on Thursday 12th September from 6:30pm for 7pm in the Scrum Hall at Goldington Road.

Exclusively for 2019/20 Season Ticket holders, the pre-season event was again included in the membership package for the fifth year running since inception with an early chance to hear the views of the Director of Rugby Mike Rayer, senior players and some of the new faces at the Blues.

A fans’ forum will follow the end of training with the chance to mingle with new recruits and existing Blues players following the Q&A as the club gear up for the upcoming Championship campaign.

Bedford were given a stern test on Friday night as they kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 50-24 win over near-neighbours Cambridge at Goldington Road.

Eight tries on the night made for a flattering scoreline, but the Blues were given a torrid time by the National One side who hadn’t turned up to be steam-rolled.

That said, the home side rallied superbly following a mid-match scare and were pleased to get the new season off to a winning start in front of 1,351 fans.

It’s 118 days since Bedford Blues were last in action at Goldington Road, so to say that the squad is champing at the bit for a return to the green, green grass of home as they take on Cambridge under the Friday night lights would be an understatement.

With plenty of comings and goings over the summer, the squad for Friday’s game will have an array of new faces including centre Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas who has penned a deal with the Blues following a successful summer trial. The former Wasps, Henley, Chinnor, Loughborough Students and England Sevens man is joined in the squad by fellow trialist Andrew Boye who starts at tight-head prop.

Rugby returns to Goldington Road under the Friday night lights this weekend as Bedford Blues face National One side and near neighbours Cambridge, in the first outing of the new season (KO 7:45pm). Click here to buy online discounted tickets.

Following the Blues’ third place finish in the Greene King IPA Championship last season, work starts again from a blank sheet as Mike Rayer plots for the campaign ahead with many new faces running out for the first time in Bedford colours.

Bedford Blues have appointed TicketCo to make purchasing tickets easier for supporters on a new mobile friendly sales platform and scanning system.

TicketCo have been made the official ticketing partner of the Greene King IPA Championship Club to provide mobile-first technology. It will manage all ticketing sales for the 5,000 capacity Goldington Road ground.

The partnership has been formed to simplify the purchasing process at Bedford Blues and improve the user experience for fans via the integration of the TicketCo platform.

Hot on the heels of the signing of utility back Charlie Reed, Bedford Blues are delighted to announce the capture of promising young prop Henry Paul.

Paul, 22, is a powerhouse prop capable of playing on either side of the scrum and had an impressive season playing at Esher in National One having previously turned out for London Irish Wild Geese.

With Bedford Blues heading into the second block of pre-season training, the club are delighted to announce the signing of utility back Charlie Reed from Loughborough Students.

In a tale similar to Rich Lane, Charlie, 23,  is a Bedford born back who came through the ranks at the Junior Blues before heading on to play for the Blues Academy and Bedford Athletic.

He continued to play while at university in Manchester - including a stint in Sale Sharks sevens team - before heading to Loughborough Students where his dazzling displays last season saw him named as full-back in the Rugby Paper National One Team of the Season.
