Bedford Blues were on the receiving end of a one point defeat under the Friday Night Lights as Yorkshire Carnegie completed an impressive comeback with a try at the death to steal a bonus point win.

The Blues inflicted a similar defeat on Coventry a few weeks ago, but the shoe was on the other foot, despite a brace of tries from Huw Worthington and one apiece for Jacob Fields, Dean Adamson, Tadgh McElroy and James Lennon.

There was nothing that could stop a late Carnegie revival as Dan Temm glided in under the posts in the 80th minute giving fly half Jade Te Rure the simplest of conversions to seal a win that looked unlikely at half-time.

While the Blues picked up a win at Emerald Headingley earlier this season, the Leeds-based club knocked Bedford out of the cup at the start of February when the teams met for a second time.
 
The Blues head into Friday’s clash off the back of a good league win over London Scottish, but Mike Rayer’s charges know that they will need to be on top form to take anything from this highly anticipated clash.
 

Bedford Blues will be bidding a fond farewell to prop Ben Cooper at the end of the season after it was confirmed that he’d be joining Bury St Edmunds as player/coach.

Cooper, who has made 110 appearances for the Blues over two spells at the club, has been a cornerstone of the Blues scrum while at Goldington Road offering power and mobility up front as well as fantastic scrummaging ability.

He took on a coaching role with Bury earlier this season and has now decided to commit himself to the National Two South club on a permanent basis.

Bedford Blues are pleased to announce that three more members of the current squad have agreed new deals to remain at Goldington Road next season.

Back row Oli Curry, centre Lewis Robling and scrum half James Lennon have joined Ryan Hutler, Rich Lane, Alex Penny and Sean McCarthy in committing their future to the Blues for the 2019/20 campaign.

Mike Rayer and his men currently sit in third spot, but an inform and revamped Yorkshire side under Chris Sterling will be intent on spoiling the home party as the Blues attempt to put pressure on second placed Ealing Trailfinders.  

Bedford Blues have started the building process for the 2019/20 Championship season by agreeing new deals for four players from the current squad.

Props Alex Penny and Sean McCarthy have both put pen-to-paper on brand new contracts at Goldington Road as have winger Ryan Hutler and fullback Rich Lane.
