Blues Community are thrilled to announce their next three-day junior rugby camp in February Half-Term running from the 12th to 14th of next month at Goldington Road, click here to book now.

The first camp of 2019 will remain open to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 15 with all levels of ability welcome. The youngsters will be put through their paces with a new and exciting programme led by new Head of Community, Dominic Fraser, and supported by Blues first team players.

As we near the end of 2018, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to take a look back over the past 12 months through the eyes of those that helped create those memories. Director of Rugby Mike Rayer, Will Hooley and Michael Le Bourgeois share their top moments from the past year.

Mike Rayer:

It is never easy sitting down and picking your ‘top’ moments from the year as they are so subjective, but here goes. We’ve had a great 12 months with plenty of highs and lots to work on as we move forward.

It was a true festive fun day at Goldington Road on Wednesday afternoon as 4,554 rugby fans turned up for the Boxing Day ‘Battle of Bedfordshire’ between Bedford Blues and Ampthill which resulted in a win for the Mob.

Having slumped to a 7-24 half time deficit, Mike Rayer’s men scored three tries, two for Pat Tapley and one for Dean Adamson, after the interval but they ran out of time as Ampthill managed to cling on to their narrow advantage to take home a 28-31 victory. 

It was a fast start to the ‘Battle of Bedfordshire’ as Ampthill put the Blues under some early pressure with some superb tactical kicking.  

Bedford Blues have named their team to take on Ampthill in what has been dubbed the 'Battle of Bedfordshire' on Boxing Day.

With either team having a festive match this season, they decided to come together to give local rugby fans a special Christmas treat with a traditional Boxing Day game at Goldington Road.

Looking ahead to the game, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "Everyone is very excited about the game against Ampthill and we're really looking forward to a good workout against a very impressive team. Ampthill have been playing some magnificent rugby this season and it will be a great test for us between a long break in Championship fixtures.

Bedford Blues showed true grit and determination to break down a stubborn Richmond side to record their fifth Championship win on the bounce on Saturday afternoon.

With the scores tied at six all at the interval, Bedford slowly turned the screw to run in three tries through Ryan Hutler, Jarad Williams and Dean Adamson while Will Hooley added a penalty and a drop goal.

Bedford Blues are delighted to welcome Jake Sharp back to Goldington Road after the fly half signed on until the end of the season.

With Harry Sheppard being ruled out for several months with an ankle injury, Bedford have secured the services of the former Coventry, London Scottish and Saracens number ten who spent the majority of his career with the Blues.

After six weeks of cup competition, Bedford Blues return to Championship action this weekend with a festive fixture against Richmond at the Athletic Ground.

Saturday afternoon's clash sees the fifth placed Blues take on tenth place Richmond in from of the Sky Sports cameras and the Blues will be looking to build on the form that saw them winning four league games on the bounce before the cup intermission.

Blues forwards coach Alex Rae said: "Following a decent cup campaign, we are all looking forward to getting back into league action and know that we have a stern challenge ahead of us this weekend.

Bedford Blues reward for making it into the final eight of the Championship Cup will be a trip to Leeds to face Yorkshire Carnegie.

Bedford’s bonus point win over Cornish Pirates ensured safe passage from Pool Three while the win over Hartpury ensured that the Blues would go on to face the toppers of Pool One.

Speaking about the draw, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “We have always said that we are taking this competition very seriously so we are delighted to have gotten through to the quarter-finals.

Bedford Blues are appealing to supporters for a small number of additional volunteers to become a part of our steward or ambassador teams for the Boxing Day derby clash.

The role will include general safety duties, crowd control and supporter services. More details will be provided by Safety Officer, Duncan Muirhead. Reasonable expenses will be considered.
